This post was inspired by two (or more) things.

1. My beloved iPod, Helga, died last week. She was a 30GB, 5th Generation iPod Video (or Classic as those big ones are called these days) and I had her for over three years. This unfortunate instance forced me to buy a new iPod. How awful :P Anyway, this time, purely for financial reasons, I opted for a 8GB iPod Nano. A bright pink one, named Helga 2.0, naturally. Somehow, music sounds better from a pretty, brand new, pink player than from an old, barely working one.

2. Aisling’s recent post on musical integrity kind of made me remember that a)music is awesome and b)I have blog in which I could talk about how amazing music is.

Anyhoo, I present to thee, a few lists!

All time favourites, some of which I might not listen to as much these days but still love them to bits

The Beatles
Hells yeah! Only like the best band in the world!! Not to mention my somewhat worrying obsession with Ringo Starr (but he was SO hot when he was young! Just watch A Hard Day’s Night). I am of the opinion that anyone and everyone who disses The Beatles is a moron and any band who either claims that they weren’t in the least bit inspired by them or even worse, claims to be the next Beatles is delusional.

Placebo
Whilst not the best band in the world (refer to point 1), they are my favourite band and no other band could ever mean as much to me as they do. I was 19, lonely and confused when I started to listen to them and was relieved to realise that hey! It’s okay to be confused and hey! Maybe you’re not as weird as you think you are and there are people who feel the same way. Placebo’s the only fandom I actively participate in. I spend a lot of time on PFWW (Placebo Fans World Wide) talking with my fellow fans. And more than occasionally about everything but the band, actually. Whilst some things within the fan community annoy me (reading about the hotness of Brian Molko for the 28765289195th time gets boring. But I suppose that’s what you get when the leader of your favourite band is far prettier than most women his age. The dude’s 37. So not fair, man!)

David Bowie
David Bowie’s my demi-god or something. A lot of bands wouldn’t be the way they are if it wasn’t for The Thin White Duke. All the eyeliner wearing glam rockers/wannabes wouldn’t be the way they are without Bowie.

The Smiths/Morrissey
Even though I’m far less of a snobby indie kid these days, I am still, and will probably always be, and indie kid at heart. And I will claim that Steven Patrick Morrissey holds a godlike place in any self respecting indie kids heart. If he doesn’t, you’re seriously missing out. In fact, every human being on this planet should listen to Morrissey’s works (for those who don’t know, Morrissey was the singer/songwriter of The Smiths and has had a very long lasting solo career since The Smiths disbanded in 1987). Morrissey is one of the best songwriters in the world. None one can else can write such delightfully self-deprecating songs without being too depressing.

Bands I currently probably overplay

The Bird and the Bee
Amazing and quite poppy band I found through watching Bones

Them Crooked Vultures
If you put Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age), Dave Grohl (Nirvana/Foo Fighters) and John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) together, you simply cannot go wrong.

Florence + The Machine
One word: quirky!

Guilty Pleasures

Even though I don’t feel the least bit guilty of listening to these. I’m too old to care about that sort of things.

Lady Gaga
I only listen to bad Romance, but I listen to that a lot :P

Adam Lambert
GLAMBERT! Okay, so I might have a thing for make-up wearing pretty (gay) boys…

Uni’s a bitch and seems to take all my time. Yet, I find plenty of time for photography and to play The Sims 3 so I’m really just making excuses.

I know myself very well. Very, very well. I have not kept a single resolution I made at the beginning of this year. BOO! Anyway. The whole 365 photos thing was a doomed idea from the beginning anyway, considering Winter in Finland isn’t really an optimal time for photography. The nearly -30 Celsius would have most likely destroyed my camera and considering it cost me 500€ = not risking it. For anything.

I swear I’m getting at something with this post. So. I’ve decided just now typing this post up that instead of 365 photos a year, I’m aiming at 52 photos a year. One a week is not (hopefully) a problem, especially now that Spring is very slowly coming along. At some point. Hopefully. It’s not that cold (less than -10 Celsius on most days, usually close to 0) and it’s all slushy and wet and icky. Note to self: buy rainboots. Preferably orange rainboots like you once had but your darling sister borrowed to a festival trip and lost them in her drunken state.

Ah, I digress.

I’m probably going to make this more of a photoblog. Yay?

Not taken this week, but sometime October ‘09, when I bought my DSLR :)

Okay. I have never ever tasted pomegranate before. Unless you count pomegranate flavoured tea (which is awesome) or juice (which is disgusting). So. Today, my youngest sister splurged on one (over 2 euros for ONE fruit is splurging, is it not?) and asked me to eat it with her (because she’s super allergic to most fruit and veggies).

So I tasted this:

And was terribly let down. It doesn’t taste that great, so the reason why many food bloggers I follow are going nuts about it is still a mystery to me (and I could totally sing this song to pomegranate).

Not only was the taste a bit of a let down, but now I have slightly itchy eyes and gums. Great. So effing great.

Also, January is NOT the best time of the year to start a photography challenge. It’s dark and cold and too snowy and shit. It looks like this:

And it’s icky.

And this is so random.

I make the same resolutions at the beginning of every year. Really, I cannot remember a year I haven’t sworn to myself that I will exercise more and eat healthier foods and consequently, lose weight. I never do that. Never. Which is why making those promises this year (again) makes me feel like a hugely giant hypocriteliarloserlamearse.

Nevertheless, my New Year’s resolutions are the bog standard ones (in list form, yo!)

Eat like a normal person. As in, breakfast, lunch, dinner and two snacks. At the moment I eat (normal food) once a day. The rest of the day is filled with crap like crisps and chocolate and Coke.

Go out and walk for at least 30 minutes and on at least 3 days a week. It’s not that time consuming and yes, it’s freaking cold outside, but warm showers afterwards have been invented, you idiot!

Lose weight. I don’t really a time limit by which I want to achieve my goal weight which is 60 kilos (about 132 pounds, and is at normal range for someone my height). I have 37 kilos (81.5 pounds) to lose. That’s hell of a lot of extra weight on me.

Take 365 photos. Meaning, a photo day. It’s a Flickr project, but one that is not limited to 365 self portraits. That one I could never do.

With the Project 365, take a self portrait on the 1st of every month. I really, really hate taking pictures of myself, or letting anyone else take pictures of me, but I’m going to try. (Mind you, taking that picture of me you can see above this post took like 23456 takes before I was satisfied with the result.)

Oh wow. I have neglected this little blog of mine for nearly a year! A lot of things have changed, some quite drastically. I applied for several universities, got called for an entrance exam and consequently got accepted to a University of Applied Sciences, and the particular school I’m currently enrolled in is one the more appreciated ones in Finland. So, I deserve a pat on my back, don’t I? *pats*

I’m trying to remember the last time I blogged and whether it was before I moved to my current home. Anyway, before I lived with one of my little sisters but as life tends to throws us around, in good and bad, my sister and I are now “separated”. She met a boy, fell in love and moved to another town. I didn’t meet a boy, didn’t fall in love and didn’t move to a different town. I did, however, move to a small flat right in the middle of this little town and yeah, almost next door to my parents. Which I suppose is both good and bad. Good because I can eat their food and bad because my Mother can pop in at any given time and complain about that one mug I haven’t washed yet and why haven’t I hoovered since two hours ago because it’s so dusty here and I really should hoover more often than every hour.

I was planning on turning Coffee Break to a food blog but decided against it as it felt too constricting. And eating pasta and beans and pasta and tomatoes and just pasta is hardly food blog worthy material. Which means, this will continue as it started: my personal, randomness filled blog that serves no greater purpose and probably isn’t even that interesting. And man, do I have a lot to do in order to get back in the blogging world! Feel free to suggest interesting blogs for me to read, by the way. Now, I’m going to try to get myself reacquainted with commenting etc. Daunting.
